The Gators had raided the NFL for a defensive coordinator for the second time since Charlie Strong left to become coach of the Cardinals of Louisville in January. After the appointment of George Edwards of the Miami Dolphins and then lost him to the Buffalo Bills 27 days later, the Gators had agreed to the name of the Arizona Cardinals defensive backs coach Teryl Austin as the new defensive coordinator, according to Mike Jurecki of Xtra Sports 910AM in Phoenix , from the ground up.

Training since 1991, Austin has the experience and success at all levels of academic and professional. Lesson from names such as Joe Paterno, Dick MacPherson, Lloyd Carr, Mike Holmgren and Ken Whisenhunt, after playing four years of college football in Pittsburgh 1984-87, 44 so far for a defensive coordinator position at either. Each leg in victory, the Seattle Seahawks and Cardinals, which was reached in the Super Bowl while he was driving their respective units and defensive back.

UPDATE: a variety of sources and reports that while the Austin-l – Gators are still likely, in the radio report was “premature” and the deal is not yet complete. However, in Joe Schad ESPN, Ivan Maisel report also states that Austin is to go to Gainesville.

Complete Second: Cardinals’ official team blog confirmed that Austin will join the Gators. Miami Hurricanes defensive seem assistant Michael Barrow, was flown to Gainesville on Thursday to interview for the job. OGGOA will continue to update this story throughout the day.

Although he had never worked with Coach Meyer in urban areas, Austin has a connection to an interim head coach and offensive coordinator Steve Addazio. Addazio during his tenure as offensive line and tight ends coach with the Syracuse Orange 1995-98, Austin was on the defensive staff assistant (1996-98).

Defensive co-coordinator, defense, and support coach Chuck Heater, 33-year veteran training one of the strongest recruits in the state of Florida, is expected to keep the new title and position. Heater worked with Meyer on the cut since 1986 when he coached the secondary in the state of Ohio Box Mayer while he was Assistant of Graduate Studies. Since joining the Gators, Heater coached cornerbacks and safeties, a 2005-07 appointment of a coordinator and assistant defensive coordinator from 2008-09.
