Latest News About Big Cinemas Jalandhar: Film and entertainment services company, Reliance MediaWorks, is planning to increase the number of screens of its BIG Cinemas chain to 330 from the present 250 by the end of next financial year, a top company official said. Presently, we have 250 screens spread across 78 cities in India and are planning to increase it to 330 by March 2011,” Reliance MediaWorks Chief Executive Officer, Anil Arjun, told reporters on the sidelines of a function here today.

The new screens would come up in cities like Hyderabad, Mumbai, Jalandhar, Chennai and Bangalore, among others, he said.

The Anil Ambani-run Reliance MediaWorks has an overall 525 screens including 250 in India, spread across 125 cities in 5 countries.

The company has tied-up with UFO Moviez, a chain of satellite-based digital cinemas, to establish a gateway for digital film releases on the silver screen in the country.

UFO Moviez has world-class digitalisation technology while Reliance MediaWorks has high-end digital cinema experience and extensive theatrical programming expertise.

The alliance would create a strong platform that would enable the producers and distributors to start utilising more number of digital screens to ensure a wider release, consistency in quality and curb piracy.

It would also ensure that movie exhibitors can enhance their revenues as they can have hassle-free, timely release and greater availability of movies without issues of print quality or delivery dates.

“The tie-up will create a robust and secure network and will also eliminate the logistics and transportation cost for the exhibitors,” Arjun said.

Under the tie-up, UFO Moviez would set up an additional encoding and encryption facility at Reliance MediaWorks premises.

Through this tie-up, a movie can be released simultaneously in several more screens, leading to over 20 per cent increase in box-office revenues, which benefits the producers, distributors and exhibitors.

UFO Moviez is a chain of satellite-based digital cinemas in the world with more than 1,800 screens across the country. The company beams digitally mastered high-quality movie images through satellite directly to cinema halls facilitating wide release of any film without any additional cost in prints for content owners. <

STX OSV’s revenue for the year ended 31 Dec 2009 was $2.054 billion and profit for the year after tax was $16m. For analysts who attended the IPO briefing, maybe you can help me with the ‘forecasted’ diluted EPS from the company?).

The Company’s dividend policy is to pay a stable (preferably rising) dividend over time.? The Company expects its annual cash dividend to be no less than 30% of the Company’s distributable annual profit. The NAV per share will be $0.41 versus the $0.79 IPO share price.

The IPO proceeds will be used mainly to improve the yard in Vietnam and second shipyward in Brazil and the rest will be spread across other purposes. Post listing, STX Europe Holdings will hold 68.3% of the Company. If you look at the management, they are made up of mainly Norwegians, however, the board has many Koreans. Before you starting thinking that this Company is a European company, the 3 letters “STX” might ring a bell? STX Pan Ocean was listed in Singapore before it seeks dual listing back in South Korea a few years back. STX Group is Korea’s 12th largest business group by total assets and has 54,000 employees worldwide.

Personally, i think the company is very good in timing its IPO. The Company is listing its shipbuilding unit when everyone starts to believe that the good times will be ‘back’ and that shipbuilding orders for the oil & gas industry will return once oil price break above the $100 mark again. The Company looks ‘cheap’ based on the FY2010 projected PE even just by using the half year EPS. The peers such as Cosco, Yangzijiang and Otto Marine are trading at much higher multiples, especially Cosco. Assuming a fair value range of 10-15x and assuming my EPS of 1H x 2 is reasonable, the fair value will trade between $1.96 to $2.94 (sounds too good to be true). Assuming i just use first half EPS of (0.076 x 1.28) = Singapore 9.73c. The implied ultra conservative PE fair value will be S$0.97 to S$1.46.

I think the IPO is worth investing and subscribing as it is attractively priced. �

World Marks 115th Anniversary of Discovery Of X-Ray

Today is the 115th anniversary of discovery of X-Ray, one of the most important discoveries in the world of science and technology. X-Ray was discovered by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen, in 1896.

One day Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen, while working with a fluorescent light bulb, he evacuated the tube of all air and filled it with gas. He then passed the high electric voltage through it. Suddenly he noticed a fluorescent glow. He covered the tube with a thick sheet of paper but then noticed the light reflect on a screen. He realized the presence of an ‘invisible light’ which can penetrate through even a screen. His later experiments revealed that this ‘invisible light can also penetrate through human body. Thus was the discovery of X-Ray.

X-Ray, is an electromagnetic radiation. Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen, explains that X-Ray, is a form of electromagnetic radiation. As the wavelength of the light decreases, it increases in energy. X-Ray lights act more like particles than a wave. The X-Ray machine passes individual X-Ray particles, called photons. These particles pass through the body. A special film is used to record the image. Dense structures like bone and teeth, appear white. Structures containing air like muscle, fat etc appear gray. Roentgen’s first experiment was in late 1895. The first film after the discovery of X-Ray was his wife Bertha’s hand with a ring on her finger. X-Ray was first utilized clinically in early 1896 in United States. It was called X, as he did not have a name for it. After the discovery of X-Ray, many urged him to name it after his name but he like it to be known as ‘X-Ray’ and thus it is still named. Today, Google celebrates the 115th anniversary of discovery of X-Ray.

Las Vegas Sands: Casino operator Las Vegas Sands Corp. said Wednesday it earned $168 million during the third quarter on a record $1.91 billion in revenue, with help from strong business in China and a new casino in Singapore.

The company run by billionaire Sheldon Adelson said it earned 21 cents per share for the third quarter, compared with a loss of 19 cents per share, $123 million, a year earlier.

Excluding one-time items, net income was $265.2 million, 34 cents per share, compared with $20.1 million a year earlier.

The results beat the average expectations of analysts polled by Thomson Reuters, who typically exclude one-time items. They predicted revenue of $1.79 billion and earnings of 23 cents per share.

Adelson, in celebrating the quarter's success, noted that a Chinese newspaper said Sands stock is worthy of children's trust funds.

"We have clearly ― as the Macau publication stated ― separated ourselves from the pack," Adelson said.

Sands took in $1.08 billion in the Chinese gambling enclave of Macau and $485.9 million at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore during that property's first full quarter in operation. Its revenue in Las Vegas was $290.7 million.

Adelson called the Singapore's $241 million in earnings before taxes, depreciation and amortization the best first quarter ever for any of Sands' resorts.

The Singapore casino has brought gambling to a new market of southeast Asians, Adelson said, attracting many customers with a lot of money who are influential in their respective countries.

The high-end market has made up 60 percent of Sands' gambling revenue in Asia, and Adelson said he plans to go for more of it.

"What we're going to focus on first is more private gaming rooms," Adelson told investors in a conference call. "(In) one private gaming room ― one bet can equal all the bets that are on the table in the mass gaming floor for that minute."

Success in Singapore and Macau ― where revenue jumped 27.7 percent compared with the same period last year ― further pulled Sands' focus toward Asia.

"Simply put, our business overall has never been healthier," Adelson said.

Sands is based in Sin City, but only 15.2 percent of its revenue during the quarter came from business in Las Vegas.

Still, revenue in Las Vegas jumped 17.8 percent to $116.6 million as retail revenue nearly doubled and room occupancy rose. Revenue per available room ― a key measure for hoteliers ― jumped 13.1 percent to $173 at the Palazzo and 2.6 percent to $156 at the Venetian.

Sands spent less in Las Vegas on promotional allowances, and Adelson told investors that the company would likely raise the bar again this week for gamblers hoping for freebies from Sands casinos.

"I personally am averse to this kind of promotion," Adelson said. "I think it diminishes our brand and I don't think it does much for us."

Despite the improvement in Las Vegas, Adelson and other executives said they have mixed feelings about economic recovery in a market that has been down more than two years.

Sands' overall casino revenue rose to $1.57 billion compared with $908 million during the third quarter last year. Room revenue rose to $208 million from $155.7 million a year earlier, while convention and retail business rose to $147.2 million compared with $95.6 million.

Sands said it had $3.35 billion in cash as of Sept. 30, with $959.7 million restricted for construction in Macau and Singapore.
